Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at shortnsassydachshundsaz@hotmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A Miniature Dachshund is a small breed of dog known for its long body, short legs, and lively personality. They typically weigh 8–13 pounds as adults and come in a variety of coat types including smooth, long-haired, and wire-haired.

Mini Dachshunds are affectionate, loyal, and often quite playful. They are known for forming strong bonds with their owners. While they can be independent and sometimes stubborn, they are also intelligent and thrive with consistent training.

Yes, when properly socialized, they can be great with children. However, due to their small size and delicate backs, interactions should always be supervised, especially with younger children.  All our dogs are exposed to kids from a very young age.

We cannot guarantee size, however, our adult Miniature Dachshunds typically weigh between 8–13 pounds and stand about 5–7 inches tall at the shoulder.

Mini Dachshunds come in three coat varieties:

  • Smooth (short-haired)
  • Long-haired
  • Wire-haired

Each coat type has slightly different grooming needs. Our program offers Short hair and long hair coats.

They come in a wide variety of colors including black & tan, chocolate & tan, red, cream, dapple, brindle and more. The Base from our program will be either Black or Chocolate depending on the pair.

Yes, all breeding dogs are health tested to ensure puppies have the best possible start. We prioritize responsible breeding practices and genetic health.

Yes, puppies are up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming before going to their new homes. Health records are provided. Please keep in mind puppies will need at least 2 more vaccines to complete their puppy series and will need their rabies Vaccine after their puppy series is completed. It is common for some veterinarians to give this shot at a later date after the final puppy series vaccine is completed, please ask your veterinarian for their best recommendation.

Please also speak to your veterinarian about the risks/complications for Leptospirosis (Lepto) Vaccine. We decline this vaccine due to higher risk of vaccine reactions in small breeds but always consult the Veterinarian for best guidance.

Puppies are typically ready to go home between 9-11 weeks of age; it truly depends on the progression of their development.

They are intelligent but can be stubborn. Consistency, positive reinforcement, and patience are key to successful training.

Like all breeds, they can be prone to certain conditions, including back issues (IVDD). Proper care, weight management, and avoiding excessive jumping can help reduce risks.

Mini Dachshunds need moderate daily exercise such as short walks and playtime. They are energetic but do not require intense activity.
